We consider further Jesus' sermon on the mount from Matthew, chapter 5. In today's portion of Jesus' teaching, the will of God is made known for his people, and this will is higher and holier than our own. By it, we are all miserable sinners. Thankfully, our forgiveness and salvation is found in Jesus keeping this will on our behalf. And in the freedom of the Gospel, we now live each day crucifying our own desiring, and striving after the righteousness revealed in Christ. Hatred for our neighbor is sin; sexual immorality is sin; unworthy oaths are sin--and so we flee from those sinful desires, and live as salt and light in a dark and sinful world.
