We often search for satisfaction; something to quench our thirst, curb our hunger, calm our fears, or provide us with lasting sustenance. But all too often, our search is in vain, for we search in the wrong place(s). the One who can quench our every thirst is Jesus, who gives the gift of the Spirit when He speaks His Word. To the Samaritan woman at the well, who had been seeking satisfaction through the use of her body, Jesus speaks of the gift of the Spirit, which becomes a spring of water welling up into eternal life. When Jesus speaks His Word delivers the Spirit, and that through the Spirit, new life is given by faith in Jesus. When Jesus speaks the Spirit gives a lasting satisfaction so that those who receive His Word will never thirst again.
